Just received from Dave Madigan the prototype electric start clutch housing and newly designed starter motor assembly to suit, no price as yet but I will keep the page updated as soon as I know and when they will be available, DM has done a fantastic job with this and we are very lucky to have him as a life time member and ardent supporter of our club, this assembly is going off to our other resident artisan Clive Scarfe to work his sheet metal magic by fabricating a stainless cover to suit this assembly, pictures will be posted when I return from the Manx GP.

    Clive,

Looks good. For what it’s worth, here’s what I did on my T160 starter cover (SS). Not at all original – Dave’s starter is bigger dia. than OEM –  but it follows Dave’s motor housing contours and gives a decent clearance under/behind the (T160) air box and carbs themselvs.

I “insulated” the electrics using tow-bar hitch cover with cut-outs. The plate itself is secured to the adapted 71-3653 housing by 2X M4 CSK screws cut to length/Loctite, whilst at the other end used a grommet on the starter spindle housing. Installed a rubber stay on the air box.

1,500 miles so far including one removal/refit without problem. Happy to share the initial drawing if there’s any interest, but did make a couple of changes to fit as I went along and I’m sure it can be improved further.

    Peter

Nice job, Clive Scarfe Systems also manufactures stainless covers for Madigan and standard starter motors.
